Hello, My Name Is...

Hello, my name is Paula Estefanía Ortiz Guerrero Aguilar Olaya Olarte Carrillo Forero. Whew, that's a mouthful. I still have to count sometimes to make sure I've said all of them. Well, anyways, enough about my name. I was born in Colombia, South America and have been in the states 8 years as of August 17th. Unfortunately, I don't go back to Colombia very often. My little sister is my best friend and we spend a whole lot of time together.
This is a picture of us in Monaco where I celebrated my fifteenth birthday.

This summer I attended the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine and I absolutely loved it. It certainly made summer 2012 the best yet. I spent two weeks in Boston, meeting people from all around the world, going to hospitals, visiting medical schools, and exploring the field of medicine. It was absolutely amazing and I could talk about it for hours without end.
This school year I hope to be involved in more extra curricular activities and keep up with my grades.
I absolutely love to read. Although I wasn't six months old when I started reading, I did begin to read pretty early and since then I've loved books. Books fascinate me and I spend a lot of time reading.
I run 5 miles everyday. I run when I need to cool off. I run when I need to get away. I run when I'm happy, excited... Basically, I run a lot and I love it. It's a great feeling.
When I'm not running or reading (or doing homework) I am on Tumblr.
But yeah, that's me.

A little about me

Hi, I'm Carson Dooley and I am sixteeen years old. I love math and reading. In my spare time I spend time with my huge family. My parents were divorced when I was six months old and are both remarried. Thus as you can imagine I have a lot of relatives. I am the oldest of six children my mom having her third boy a month ago. I love UK basketball and I can deal with football even though we are awful. My favorite movie is "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" I saw it for the first time when I was three and have loved it ever since. It sort of binds my family together. I also enjoy playing on sporcle as gates mentioned but my favorite website is http://www.cakewrecks.com/. these are some of the best cakes ever made in my opinion (I'm sure you'll agree). My favorite of them is the "Naked Mohawk-Baby Carrot Jockies". So thats me in a nutshell below is a picture from cake wrecks for all of us UK fans this is cake a beacon of what a good cake shouldn't be.

You can call me Gates

Howdy Partners
Hello, my name is Daniel Gates Corman and I am fabulous. I like to play golf and basketball. I used to play soccer as well but it was too easy so i quit. I am on the golf team, but not on the basketball team. Unfortunately for me the basketball coaches were looking for people with considerably more talent than I posses. I believe that the picture of me (see above) is a very good representation of who i am as a person. I am always relaxed, and of course I always look good. I have been told that my swagger is "off the charts", and I believe it. If i could have any super power it would be the ability to stop time. That way i could stop time and do my homework then start time again and have the rest of the day for activities. The one thing I can talk about for hours is sports. Except for baseball. I hate baseball. For this school year I definitely want to get all A's. If i could get all A's with 5 AP classes on my schedule I would for sure consider the year a success. My favorite website to go to is http://www.sporcle.com/ because it is a procrastinators playground and I have a tendency to procrastinate. That pretty much describes me. Just remember, Live long and YOLO.

hi

Dear diary,

I hope it's okay if I start my blogs out with "dear diary" because I never journaled or anything when I was a child and I'm trying to get a feel for what I was missing out on. Well, hello. My name is Adam Scott Kiser (yes, my initials are ASK. I get told that about once a week when people see my backpack) and I am currently 16 years old. I have a wonderful mom and dad and a beautiful sister who is starting her sophomore year at UK. If I'm not at school or at home, I'm usually doing something at Crossroads Christian Church, where I'm heavily involved in the youth group. I could tell you more about my personal life but then I would have to kill you.

I'm not sure if you know this but the picture that you can see above is what some call a "selfie". After practicing for many months, I personally believe that I have mastered the art of the selfie. I chose one of my favorites for the blog. Sometimes I like to think of the camera on the front of my iPhone as my best friend since I make more eye contact with it than I do with my human friends. I strongly feel that taking a selfie is the best way to communicate exactly how you are feeling to someone in a quick and easy way. There are so many emotions that you can express in a single picture and it's WAY more fun to send someone a picture of yourself than to write out what you want to say. You could say that selfies geek me out since I probably send an average of three a day to some of my friends.

Ok, now let's move on to the more serious stuff! Let's talk goals. For academics, I'm striving to keep my straight "A" streak going throughout high school. But getting A's isn't enough. I want to get all that I can out of the six classes that I am taking this year and to have a greater appreciation for what I am learning. I have recently taken on a leadership/service position in the Y-Club and I really want to represent the club in the best way possible and to serve my community in any way that I can.

This summer, I had the privilege of being a counselor at Camp UNITE, which is a camp in Williamsburg, Kentucky for middle-school age kids who live around the area, for the second year in a row. The camp targets kids who are underprivileged and many of them have had drug and/or alcohol abuse issues within their families. It is amazing to be able to spend a week with the 200+ kids who come to the camp looking for a place to have fun and be themselves. This camp beats out my trips to New York, Panama City, and Green Bay by a huge margin because of the many things that I have learned from the kids and the experiences that will stay with me forever. Here's a small taste of what happens at a Camp UNITE dance (I'm usually not a dancer):

A website that I recently discovered is www.sevenly.org . On this website, they advertise a selection of t-shirts and other clothing items representing a different charity every week and a portion of the cost of the clothing goes to that certain charity. I haven't bought anything from it yet, but they've got some awesome t-shirts and I'm sure I'll be making a purchase very soon.

It's been real, diary.

yours truly

My name is Sophia Whitman Sandmeyer, if you want to make it even longer you can add my middle name, Carmen. I just got back from spending a year abroad in Germany and I’m not sure if I’ve completely gotten over the culture shock yet. Leaving everyone after spending a year with the friends I made there was probably the hardest thing I had to do this summer, other than painting my mom’s classroom, which was a horror I do not want to describe.  I met so many amazing, fabulous people there, including some who were as nerdy as me when it comes to Broadway musicals. We spent a lot of time on Broadway.com geeking out over new songs and musicals. When we didn’t go there I would be painstaking helping them convert and translate recipes for cake pops on foodgawker.com or addictively looking at page after page of Pinterest.

This is an airport/goodbye/crying/ picture where my lovely friends (and family) dropped me off, and lots of promises of skyping and endless emails were made. I had to carry that poster on the plane. Talk about awkward situations with weird seatmates. So considering that, I guess if I had a superpower it would be teleportation so I could avoid the sketchy Skype connections and awkward pauses where their mouths are moving but you cant hear a single thing and to be able visit all of my new friends who are doing their foreign exchanges this year in places way cooler than Germany.

For this year I am mostly hoping to not forget everything that I learned last year and to manage taking chemistry and physics at the same time. If I was really trying to be an over achiever I would say my to get drivers license as well.

Hey There, I'm Sarah

As my title says, I'm Sarah. An easy way to start this out is to say that I'm 16 (17 in November) and that I have not lived in Lexington all my life, though I have at this point lived here long enough that I associate more with here than where I lived before (some rinky dink town named Cookeville was the closest to town to where I technically lived, but I went to school in an even rinky-dinkier town called Baxter, if it can even be called that). That was in Tennessee, and if you hadn't noticed, it's kinda in the middle of nowhere. I moved in 4th grade, and as such have spent the more meaningful, developmental part of my life in Lexington.

This past summer was the first time that I ever left the country, even though I feel like in most ways Canada isn't really all that different from the U.S. I went to Toronto and Niagara Falls (the Toronto part was for my sister, and the Niagara Falls part for everyone else, but especially my sister, who doesn't like big cities.) I loved Toronto, but Niagara Falls reminded me too much of Gatlinburg for me to like it too much. That said, here's a picture of my dad, sister and I all in front of Niagara Falls.

And with that I'll move on to what geeks me out, which, here's a warning, there's a lot of stuff. As can be seen from my shirt in the last picture, I really like Star Trek (though I've only watched the Original Series and the reboot movie). Speaking of movies, I really like the Marvel universe movies, but Iron Man is my favorite of the heroes (I have a soft spot for Loki, even though he's a villain.) I love the show Sherlock and also like the movies, and there are several cartoons that I could discuss forever (such as The Legend of Korra or anything related to Avatar.) And when I say discuss forever, I mean I could literally talk about it forever. I'm also pretty partial to a webcomic called Homestuck. Oh, and the last book I read was Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett and it was pretty amazing.

Trust me when I say I've thought about what super power I'd want to have for a long time. I tend to go between two of them: the one I stick with more is shielding/force field powers, while the other is the ability to control gravity. And now that I've said that, I can say that most of my friends have discussed this too, and at one point I even drew a bunch of us as superheroes (here lemme post it I'm sure it's fine if I pollute this blog with my doodles.)

The middle three in this picture are in the Academy, actually. I'm in the very middle, while on either side of me are Michael (S) and Bay (both of whom are in 6th hour English) (PS that chick next to Michael is his girlfriend, this has been a psa). I draw a ton though, and anything that's colored is most likely done on the computer, like this one.

Having typed all of this up I now realize that it's pretty much entirely devoted to random fandoms and stuff like that. Well, that is the kind of thing that I'm interested in, but don't worry, as much as my parents might disagree, I can talk about other things. However, since it plays in together, I have two websites that I love very much and could nearly get lost on. Tumblr is one of them, while another one that I lose myself on is called TvTropes, which is a website entirely devoted to reoccurring themes that show up in tv shows, books, movies, etc. I'll end all of this by saying that I don't know what I want to do with my life or with which of my interests I should try to pursue a career with, but that I hope to have some of that figured out by the end of this year.

me, myself, and i

my name is matthew logsdon.  i'm 42 years old and will soon be 43 - you never think you're gonna get old and then all of a sudden, you're there.  i'm a total movie nerd and my daily web browse goes to www.aintitcool.com   and then i go to www.likecool.com and -- well, it's like, cool.  i'm not sure i have any personal academic goals, but i want to have all 75 academy students pass the ap test and I'd love to push 50% of ya'll to have a 5 or better.  I also want to have an amazingly successful year with my freshmen and TV class, but that's a bit more difficult to measure.

on a personal note, i am married (11 years in november - ya for me) with two amazing daughters (6 & 9) and really honestly truly love what i do for a living.

if i could have any superpower it'd have to be . . . i'm not sure i can pick just one.  perhaps it's gonna have to be super smarts so that i can invent a mechanical means for all the other powers - i'm thinkin' Batman.

Anyway - that's me in a teeny-tiny nutshell

here's to an amazing year
m

ps.  www.collider.com is really awesome too, but i don't like the layout
