Playlist--Anderson

The Common White Girl Playlist:
Lets face it, we all get in those moods where we want to act like a common white girl. It all starts with the playlist.
The first song is, I Knew You Were Trouble by Taylor Swift (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d0DfyAIkGw0 ). Being a common white girl, they love some taylor swift and nothing sets the mood better than a song about bad boys.
The second song is, As Long As You Love me by heart throb Justin Bieber (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7yBhaxJBE8 ) This choice incorporates all of a common white girl’s favorite things: a beautiful man, the voice of an angel, and a cheesy love song.
Being the perfect spot for a throwback, up comes number 3, California Gurls by Katy Perry (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vj_UEJjUIQ4 ) This song moves away from the love-obsessed side of the common white girl and towards the summer-fun side.
Whats a common white girl playlist without some One Direction? Kiss You is up next (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XAXE3JANcsU ) How could a common white girl resist screaming out the lyrics to their favorite boy band? I sure wouldn't be able to.
Starting out at the normal enthusiastic mood of a common white girl, its time to end the playlist PUMPED and ready to go. Kesha’s Die Young ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jKknG8b-Z-4 ) is last. This brings out the common white girl’s rebellious party side and makes them pumped up for the rest of the day.
With the help of this playlist, you too can be a common white girl.

Bruce?

After a night of thought and a March Madness themed bracket today during second hour, I have come to the conclusion that of all the fictional characters which I adore, the most awesome is Bruce Wayne. There were lots and lots of factors which affected this decision. First off, the Bruce Wayne I am speaking of is the one of the most recent Batman trilogy. I had to limit almost all of my potential characters to one facet of their existence since Iron Man, Spider Man, and Batman all have intensely detailed histories with comics, etc. I reduced all of them to their most recent film versions (included all 4 Spider Man movies). Moving on though, the primary reasons why I chose Bruce Wayne in the early rounds was because he is ripped, is rich, has an awesome suit, and is purely good. When he faced off against Tony Stark, it was an epic battle. Both are rich,  both have awesome technology, both are incredibly smart, and both get the girl. The thing that set Bruce Wayne apart from Stark, however, was that Tony Stark's power comes completely from machine; whereas, Bruce Wayne's is natural and he worked very hard to earn his strength. Also, Tony Stark creates problems which he overcomes, but Wayne saves the world from evil. None of the enemies Gotham faces are because he slipped up or anything like that. Stark almost caught Wayne because of his role in The Avengers but it wasn't meant to be as Wayne to his awesomeness to the next round. There he met another formidable opponent, James Bond (Sean Connery). While Connery's portrayal of Bond is entertaining I felt like Bond got very little reward based on the risks he had to take and the suffering he endured. Although, a great matchup at face value, Bruce Wayne advanced smoothly to the finals. In the finals Bruce Wayne was pitted against Harvey Spector of my favorite TV series: Suits. Ultimately, Wayne was the greater. In the category of wealth Wayne gets the edge. However, in overall smoothness, Harvey took the cake. What it really came down to was the happiness factor. As it stood, Bruce Wayne was a wealthy man, riding into the French sunset with the ever so sexy Catwoman (Anne Hathaway) on his arm. Although Harvey has some beautiful women in his life, none even come close to Catwoman. And Harvey's life is swirling around into a giant, ferocious mess while Wayne's is evening out nicely. Because of all of these factors, the champion of fictional characters was crowned, Bruce Wayne, Batman, The Dark Knight!

Assignment 22: the perfect playlist

A Blast From the Past

"High Fidelity" (2000) was a film that was remarkably ahead of its time. The film tells the story of Rob Gordon, a washed-up music junkie (played by the fantastic John Cusack) who spends his days creating perfect 5 song playlists. There's his playlist for his worst break up ever, his playlist of the top 5 soul tracks released between 1955 and 1965, and his playlist for his ex-girlfriend's dad's funeral.

Today, thanks to Limewire, iTunes, the "genius" Itunes feature, and Pandora, creating a "perfect" playlist has never been easier.

On the other hand, Rob probably would be appalled by the slapdash way some of us throw together any group of songs above a certain tempo before we head to the gym, or take all those below a certain tempo and thoughtlessly label it “chillaxxx.” As Rob forewarned, “The making of a good compilation tape is a very subtle art. Many do’s and don’ts. You’re using someone else’s poetry to express how you feel. This is a delicate thing.”

So for this blog assignment, create a "perfect" playlist for something. It could be your perfect playlist to listen to at the gym (boring!), perfect playlist for a rainy day, perfect playlist for anything. . . be as creative as you can. Once you have chosen a topic, select 5 tracks for this playlist, noting the song and artist, and write a few sentences explaining why you chose this song, what this song adds to your playlist, why you put it where you did, and how it works with the other songs you selected to create a cohesive perfect playlist.

If you want link it to a spotify playlist and share a link.

Fictional Character

If I could be any fictional character, I would be Frodo Baggins from The Lord of the Rings. Frodo may be small in comparison to the tasks that he faces, but he is able to overcome them and eventually succeed in his ultimate, seemingly impossible task of destroying the ring. This fictional character is a symbol of those who may be small physically or socially but have strong will and are able to do whatever they desire. Frodo shows the world what can be done even when the world is against you. In the end Frodo's life goes back to normal, but the experience that he was faced with changes his outlook on life forever. I hope to experience more than the world that is immediately around me just like Frodo, and allow my outlook on life to change based on my experiences along with it. Of course I do not mean to literally go to the world that The Lord of the Rings takes place in, but to just experience more of the world that I live in.

Fictional Character

This might have been one of the hardest posts I have had to do because I just love so many fictional characters. But, if I had to choose one to be, it would have to be Deena from Dreamgirls. Deena is played by Beyonce, who we all know is extremely beautiful and amazing. Deena is an amazing singer, so of course I would want to gain that assett. She has her flaws, which makes her seem more real. While in the movie she is kind of mean towards one of the other main character's and it ends up breaking up the Dreamgirls singing group over a miscommunication, at the end she apologizes for everything and expresses how she was also confused on the miscommunication. If I were Deena, I'd be able to sing and hold my own, while I'd also have the ability to be sympathetic and caring towards friends. Deena is very strong, talented and fierce; who wouldn't want to be like her?

fictional characters

If I could be any fictional character, I would be miss lizzie bennet.  for those who do not know of this fantastic heroine, lizzie bennet is from pride and prejudice,  by jane austen.  while lizzie has her faults, like pride and judgement, she is a loving, loyal sister and a very independent daughter.  She fights for what she believes in, like marrying for love and not for money.  Lizzie may be quick to make opinions about things and people, but she is willing to learn about them if evidence is present.  I would want to be her because she wasnt one to let the system of her time rule her life; she wanted to be her own person.  She was smart, intelligent, and loved to read.  Lizzie stayed true to herself when everything around her was changing.  Lizzie was and is a very cool gal.

If i couldnt be lizzie, I would be veronica mars.  Mr logsdon gets it.

I Accidentally Went Back to 3rd Grade

This question isn't simply a question of who your favorite character is. It's a matter of who, of those characters, you would want to be. So I'll start out by saying that I have plenty of favorite characters, but there are things about each that make me hesitant to say I'd want to be them. Sherlock is pretty dang awesome in my mind, but let's face it, he's a jerk. Ditto for Kirk, though the ability to be a starship captain sounds awesome, it's also terrifying. Numerous characters from the anime Puella Magi Madoka Magica come to mind, but I won't even try to get into why I'd rather not be any of them.

What I'm saying here is, wow this is a difficult question. So I'm gonna go off into no where with a completely random and silly response and say that I would like to be Sakura Kinomoto from the anime/manga Cardcaptor Sakura.

Like, seriously, look at this little cutie. She's a 4th/5th grader at the time of the story, and regardless of how young she is, she's also the protector of the Clow Cards, which, without going into too much detail, means that she wields a ton of power for a little girl. She has the protect the world from these things, all while befriending the cards and trying to be a typical 4th grader. Except, really, she has a lot more freedom at home than she should have.

So her friends are really great too. Her bff Tomoyo Daidoji has been with her since forever and dotes on Sakura like crazy. She records Sakura being a hero, as well as makes outfits for Sakura to wear during her fights.
Pretty much like that
Her other good friend was originally her "rival" (as stated by Tomoyo) but the two of them eventually become really close. Syaoran Li was a Chinese exchange student who was sent to capture the cards before her (he was actually probably better than her at first, but loses to her anyway).
Oh yeah, he's also her love interest.
But enough about her friends. She's just really sweet and kind, and she's able to do all of the things that she does, even though she's such a young little girl. She's the first Master of the Clow since Clow himself, who created the cards. All in all, I think she's pretty cool, and she's also one of the first fictional characters I ever idolized ever. (The first was either Sailor Moon or Yugi, dunno which one).

A detective in cool dresses-Sophia's fictional caracter

There are a lot of characters that I would like to be for a day or even a month like Cinderella or Nikita (from the movie, not the show) and you know, Laurie from Oklahoma. But the thing about these characters is that I would only like to live part of their lives because some get boring and some have to kill people and I don't want that to happen to me.

I have come to the conclusion that Nancy Drew is the perfect middle; her life stays interesting but she never has to kill people. Plus she has a red convertible. If any of you were Hardy Boys fans, one you missed out, and two Nancy Drew is a girl in her early twenties who lives with her father and has two best friends named Bess and George (both are girls even though one is named George, which always confused me) and a boyfriend named Ned. But the interesting thing about her is that she solves mysteries. All the time. And she is really good. She has a pretty sweet life because she travels all over the world solving these mysteries and can bring all of her friends and she never goes broke. She also wrecks her convertible in every book and always gets a new one. The sad part of her life is that her mother died when she was very young but that's ok because she has a housekeeper that loves her like a mother and always makes her brownies.

The thing I have realized while I was thinking about this blog was that while I love reading about characters that have struggles and go through really hard times and come out the other side empowered and wise, I prefer to read about it than have it happen to me. Also there aren't many characters that have a super cool life where they travel everywhere and have adventures with out having struggles or having to kill people or avoid being killed by other people. Nancy Drew, on the other hand, gets all that and is always dressed like she is going to model for Vogue.

Fictional Character

If I could chose to be any fictional character it would probably be Katniss Everdeen from the Hunger Games. Well, I don’t know how much I would want to be her, as much as I would like to have some of her character traits. The reasons I have chosen Katniss are that she is selfless, brave, and smart. You can see her selfless nature in the first book of the Hunger Games series. When her sister, Prim, gets called to participate in the Games at Reaping, Katniss volunteers to take her place and effectively gives up her life for Prim. Katniss is also brave; during the first and second books she valiantly fights in the Games. I think having the quality of bravery is really great. And lastly, Katniss is smart. This can be seen throughout the series but, an example is when she decides to eat the berries at the end of the first book (if you have read the books you will understand this reference). Overall, Katniss drives her society to become better and inspires change; I think it would be really cool to be able to do that.

My name is Asher Lev

An orthodox Jewish artist painting Picasso-style crucifixions is not exactly what most people would think of as their "ideal character." Yet, there's something about the story of Asher Lev that really draws me in. I'm not sure if its the fact that he is an artist (there's nothing more on this planet I would love than to have artistic abilities), or the fact that he stays true to his identity in the face of opposition, or maybe it's the firm devotion he has in his faith even as his faith seeks to reject him. I don't know what it is about that boy Asher Lev, but I want to be him.

Well honestly, I guess what I really want is not to be Asher Lev, but to have something, some integral part of me, that I can hold on to even in the midst of being challenged by others. What I want is the chance to retain my integrity and identity in the face of opposition. What I want is to be able to show the world that who I am is not defined by your desires and that I don't need anyone's approval or validation to be myself. Asher Lev got that chance when his entire family and community turned against him because he was an artist and they were Hasidic Jews. And Asher Lev got to show his entire community that Judaism and art were not irreconcilable. And I think that's what makes me want to be him. I want a chance to prove myself. I want a chance to show everyone that I am not defined by my sexuality, race, gender identity, economic status, or any other of the sixteen thousand labels there are in this world. I want the chance to give a "fuck the patriarchy" (sorry) styled shout to the world and finally establish the fact that nobody in this world, other than me, can tell me who I am.

See, Asher Lev could do it. I want to do it too.

if i could be anyone..

If I had the choice to be anyone from all the book I've read or movies and TV shows I have seen, the decision would be simple. I would chose to be Serena Van der Woodsen from the TV series Gossip Girl.

From the picture it is quite evident that she is very pretty, but this is not the only reason I would chose to be her. Serena Van der Woodsen, played by Blake Lively, is my favorite character from the show for a multitude of reasons starting from her social status and moving deeper into her personality and ability to handle situations that none of the other characters have the capacity to. Serena comes from a very very VERY rich family from the Upper East Side of Manhattan. She lives in a pent house apartment, goes to an elite prep school and eventually and Ivy League University, and has the closet any girl would dream to have. But, if it was just for the shallow reasons that I would chose to be Serena Van der Woodsen, I could have chosen to be any other character from the show. Yes, I would love to look like she does and I would love to live in a pent house apartment on the Upper East Side and i would love to go to an Ivy League University and I would LOVE to have her closet; but it is her personality that is most attractive to me. Even though Serena comes from a extremely wealthy family and could have any guy of her choice, for the majority of the series she is in a relationship with Dan Humphry, a boy from Brooklyn. Dan is looked down upon by the majority of the Upper East Side because of his lack of money but Serena is able to see past all of this and proves that she is not a shallow, privileged rich girl as many think she is. Serena is also a genuinely good friend. She and Blair Waldorf have been friends since birth but it was not always smooth sailing. Blair constantly pushed Serena down so that she could be on top but this did not bother Serena as much as it would most people. Serena was perfectly content being second to Blair because she did not find her worth in popularity. No matter how many fights her and Blair got in and no matter how many mean and hurtful things they said to each other, she was still always there when Blair needed her the most. Serena also grows a lot as a character in the series. In the beginning she is very wild and parties a lot, but after spending a year at boarding school she completely changes as a person. She lets go of that life of partying and matures, this is something none of the other characters do. Even though Serena has been through many hard times she still remains someone a girl could look up to. For example, before Serena went to boarding school, she witnessed a man die after snorting a line of cocaine, this would ruin many of the characters and hold them back from moving on and maturing but not Serena; when she comes home from boarding school she faces the man's parents and lets that time in her life go completely. Because of all of this I would chose to be Serena Van der Woodsen, not just because of how beautiful she is (although that sure does add to it) but because of her personality and depth of a character.

OH SNAP

I think I just had a vision! Just kidding, I couldn't have because I'm not Raven Baxter. But when I think about fictional characters that I would like to be, Raven immediately pops into my head (just like her visions pop into her head ha).

Raven Baxter was always one of my favorite, if not my favorite, characters on television. Disney Channel (23) was my life from ages 6-11 (I actually have no idea when I started and when I stopped watching) and That's So Raven was definitely my favorite show. Here are some of the reasons why I would choose to be Raven Baxter over every other television/movie/book character:

1. Raven is psychic. I mean, this really doesn't need any more explanation. She sees visions of the future multiple times throughout the day. Yes, some of them end up getting her in trouble, but in the end, she has a special gift that makes her unique and it often ends up helping her solve problems for herself, her family, and her friends.

2. Chelsea and Eddie. In the show, Raven has two best friends, Chelsea and Eddie. They're super funny, nice, and always there for Raven when she needs them. They get into all kinds of fun trouble with Raven and, even though they often have conflict with each other, they always make up at the end of the day.

3. Raven's Parents. Tonya and Victor Baxter are two of the coolest parents I have ever seen. Sometimes, they seem more like Raven's friends than her parents. They're funny, supportive, and just the right amount of embarrassing.

I could list so many more reasons why I would want to be Raven Baxter (I realized that I forgot about Cory), but I'll leave it at three. Her overall life and the people within it are incredibly fun and interesting and I would have numerous awesome experiences if I were her.

Austin's 21

If I had to chose one fictional character to be, there is no doubt in my mind that I'd chose to be Mike Ross from the show Suits. Mike starts off the show as an insanely intelligent, pothead, who makes his money by taking tests for people in college, which he gets exactly the score they want on them because of his photographic memory. As he progresses through the show he gets the opportunity to work for the best lawyer in all of New York, at one of the top firms. His photographic memory proves invaluable, and he really becomes the "best damn laywer anyone has ever seen." Mike retains his relationships, and is incredibly caring for all, struggling with the moral dilemmas that all prosecution lawyers face at points in their careers; however, he always finds a way to do the right thing for the parties involved, and win the case. The main reason I'd like to be Mike Ross is because he gets to date Meghan Markle, or Rachel Zane, in the show. She is seriously the most attractive human on the face of the earth, and I'd seriously do anything. Sooooo, yeah, Mike rocks, and he humanizes the corporate lawyers by encouraging them in such convincing ways to do the right thing. I want to be Mike Ross.

#21--Anderson

Any fictional character? I would definitely be Jake from Adventure Time. Every day is a new adventure with Jake the dog and Finn the human. Saving Princesses from the evil ice king and destroying monsters, keeping peace throughout the land of Ooo.  That'd be the life. I'd be living in a tree with my very best friend, goofing around and going on exciting quests daily. No one would be able to stand up to my shape shifting/ super stretchy skills either. Need a key? WAM. my hand could turn into the perfect one. Would never be locked out of my house again. Want to get somewhere fast? Hop on my back and ill grow 10 times my size and run there. All of my problems would be solved. Everyone would come to me for help. With ease, i would complete each request. Jake is by far, the coolest fictional character i can think of.

Next time he'll think before he cheats

Right now somewhere in the universe stars are being born. People and other living things are being born. Soil is being created and so it goes from the old to the new. Destruction of stars is occurring the stars we see in the sky have already burned out and we don't even know it yet. The stars we see may have stopped burning long before the human race began and yet we continue to see them. These stars however do not stop existing. They float along perhaps as super massive black holes perhaps as tiny white dwarves perhaps as red drwarves no bigger than earth. These stars continue. Just as the soil continues from us to it and back again so does the universe. The stars rise and fall. Time marches on.

Fictional characters

Whenever it comes to things like this I always have a hard time choosing because I can not remember all of my favorite characters, and when I am writing I usually think of a different character I want to do then change, so for times sake I will pick the first favorite that pops into my head. I honestly think that it would be a blast to be Buddy the Elf. That would make you hands down the funniest being on planet Earth. You would get to go to the north pole, hang out with santa, find out all the other mystical stuff then come down to the real world and brighten people lives. I would however coin the term "Buddy the Elf, whats your favorite color?" because I mean, we all have to get money somehow. I could finally be a beast at basketball when I played with the elves because I'd be 6 ft 4 and they would be 4 ft 2; so I would have a slight advantage. It would really be fun to be Buddy because you'd always be happy and look to help out others, no moment is boring and life would just be great.

Fictional Character

If I could be any fictional character I would be Captain Jack Sparrow. All he does is sail around on a big boat and run from his responsibilities. I like boats and I hate responsibilities. Plus, it would give me a lot of time to go fishing in tropical places. That just isn't feasible in my life. Also, people have almost no expectations for him, which would be perfect because I hate when I dont reach a person's expectations of me, especially when that person is me. But that wouldnt be a problem as Jack Sparrow, I could just hop on the black pearl and set sail for some Caribbean island and take a vacation from my already care free life. As long as I stayed in warm parts of the World (which I would) it would be like an endless summer vacation. Pretty much I would be living the dream.

A Book For the Ages (All of Them!)

This is so broad of a topic that I can't even begin to consider narrowing it down. I mean, there are just so many favorites out there to consider! You've got TV shows, movies, novels and so forth. And within those categories, there are even more sub-divisions: Romance, Comedy, Horror, Suspense, Thriller. I could just keep going forever. And for that matter, so can my list of all-time favorite fictional characters. When I was little, without a doubt my favorite character was Pippi Longstockings - I actually had my mom read me the book almost every single night (basically until I could read it myself.) Pippi was strong, and fearless, and brave. She was confident, joyous, and carefree. She never hesitated, whether it was to pull a prank on two stupid cops or just speak her mind when the pharmacist offered her a cream to get rid of her freckles - unabashed, she exclaimed that anyone who wanted to get rid of their freckles was crazy. She, in fact, wanted even more! Reading the book, I much more related to Annika, the reserved sister and next-door neighbor, but Annika was always the one worrying that something would go wrong, that their parents would get mad at them, that they were breaking the rules -  but, I didn't want to be Annika, I wanted to be free-spirit Pippi who didnt have any parents telling her what to do! From the top of her flaming red braids all the down down to her mismatched outfit, knee-high socks, and shoes several sizes too big, Pippi was pretty much my role model. As a little girl, I was incredibly shy (more so than now, if possible) and I guess reading about all of the fabulous adventures Pippi went on gave me some courage. Not buy the entire supply of a candy store, but maybe just step out of my comfort zone and actually smile at someone next time they greeted me instead of hide behind my mothers' legs. (But, I won't lie and say that after reading Pippi could lift her horse and carry him around the house, I didn't try to lift my grandpa's donkey on the farm. It was a valid assumption at the time...perhaps not a well thought out one, but a valid one all the same. Plus, donkey's are lighter than horses...and it's all we had.)
Having grown up now, I don't read Pippi every night anymore. In fact, I probably haven't read the book in a year or two. But, the mere fact that when asked what fictional character I would be, my mind immediately jumps to Pippi should demonstrate just how great of an impact she had on me. Even today, I probably still don't have half of the strength Pippi has in accomplishing things. Anything she set her mind too, even if it seemed impossible, she always managed to find a way to do it and always do it better than anticipated. I guess what I'm attempting to say, the bigger picture out of all of this, is that even though I read that books so long ago, it still manages to inspire me to be just as fearless, and well, outrageous and non-conforming (!) as Pippi was.

Spoiler Alert: Because I was that obsessed, I read all of the sequels and I just wanted to calm everyone down and say that yes, Pippi does find her shipwrecked father at last. Ye needn't fret any longer.

*Paula, I commend you on your choice of fictional character. Had you not beaten me to posting 2 hours earlier, I might have just stolen Rose from you :) *

Destination: Raxacoricofallapatorious

If I could be any be any fictional character ever in the world(s) of fictional characters, I would definitely be Rose Tyler. One, because she's gorgeous and fantastic and great in every way. I mean, really. She's just wonderful. She's outgoing and daring (something that I could never be) and she's the Defender of the frickin' Earth for pete's sake. Seriously. There's no one as fabulous as Rose Tyler and that's a fact. Not only that, she has her own version of Ten in her own parallel universe where her dad is alive. (Although I know it's not the same and it broke my heart that she didn't get the real Ten. Gah. Anyways...) I think it would be just lovely being Rose Tyler, especially if I could be her when she was still travelling with the Doctor. Now, that would be great; then I could go to all kinds of different planets and watch the end of the world in the year 12,005 and get to travel in the TARDIS. So if I could be any fictional character ever, it would definitely be Rose Tyler.

The End.

Pigs (Three Different Ones)

This is a tough questions and to keep myself from never coming up with an answer I am going with the book that I agree with most and came to my head fastest.
I don't mean I wouldn't actually want to be this character, I just don't want to keep rethinking my choice because as you have probably learned I am not good at coming up with favorites or choosing just one.
I would be Trixie Shapiro from Comedy Girl by Ellen Schreiber.
It has been some time since I read the book so I can't remember the exact ending details.
The character I choose I already relate to so I didn't choose someone completely different than me that has it all I choose a character that I already feel very similar to she just got to live out our similar dream.
She became a comedian. That isn't my first actor/comedy choice- SNL is- but being a comedian and being one as good as she is would be awesome!
I would love to get to live out being funny for a career. If I remember correctly Trixie doesn't stay a comedian because of the show business but she got to live it out for some time.
Also, like in uplifting novels, she gets the guy she has been drooling over, they have a situation to test their relationship and in the end they are happy together.
I loved this book so much and I truly would want to be Trixie. She had to go through a decent amount of conflict but she got to live out a pretty awesome dream.

Assignment 21: Fictional Character, Fictional Life

Out of all of the books, all of the movies, and all of the television shows you have watched, consider your favorite characters. Then, answer the following:

If you could be any fictional character, who would you be and why?

How to discover yourself

Discovering yourself can take any range of time depending on the person that is doing it. For some it takes their entire life, while for others they discover themselves after one defining event. This is not to mention that there is no clear place to start on this quest. Step one could be anywhere, thus you must become cultured and do as many things as possible whether in or outside of your comfort zone. Once you find something that you are passionate about, whether it be music, community service, etc... you exploit it so that you fully know that this lifestyle fits you. You fill your life with nothing but what this lifestyle involves. This is either what you were meant to do or it isn't. If not then you must start over from step one. This is why it takes some their entire life. It is an incredibly difficult task. But once you find yourself, everything is clear. The ultimate question of your life is answered and you are able to sit back and take it all in.

Bucket List

Before I finish high school I hope to travel out of the country. I don't even care where I travel, I just want to have an experience that I couldn't in my own country. I want to be immersed in another culture so that it may change me as a person. I believe that a journey out of one's own comfort zone can enlighten them and change them for the better.

Before I finish college I want to have gone to all of the major music festivals in the country. I went to two music festivals this past summer and already have three scheduled for this upcoming summer. It was an amazing experience. I discovered new music and was surrounded by some of the most interesting people I have ever been around. I hope to become a part of the music festival culture by the time I graduate college.

Before I die I want to investigate my heritage and follow it back as far as possible. This would involve talking to hundreds of family members to get their sides of the story as well as going to places my ancestors lived. Discovering one's heritage and roots is an important thing to do as it shows them where they came from.

At this Moment in Time

... only one person is awake in the Kiser household. He's rapidly typing on his laptop because he completely forgot about a blog post that is due in about half an hour. His mind is jumping back and forth between the post, the anatomy take-home test that he hasn't done yet, the calculus homework he hasn't done yet, the reading assignments for APUSH he hasn't done yet, the ACT studying he hasn't done yet, and all of the other things that worry him. But, he isn't sweating it. He knows from experience that he'll end up doing everything eventually. He's fighting the tired feelings and the urge to just pack up and call it a night. He's got music playing in his ear but he is unable to even acknowledge the song because of all the other things that fill his mind. He just took a few seconds to concentrate on the song that he's listening to. It's a good one. He sings along in his head for a few seconds. He snaps back into reality and continues to write his post. He checks his twitter, facebook, and instagram (in that order) on his phone to see if anyone posted anything new and interesting. He realizes that there isn't anything worthwhile and he's disappointed. He realizes that he's rambling in his blog post and that he needs to wrap it up. He decides to write his last sentence and be done.

Advice

When I was younger my dad would always tell me to be proactive. no matter what it pertained to that is what he would say. He even had me write "Be Proactive" on a sheet of paper and tape it to my wall in my room. This way I was even more constantly reminded of the message. Though the paper no longer hangs in my room, the thought of being proactive is forever stuck in my head. Though I often procrastinate and am not as proactive when it comes to school work, I still prepare for things that have a possibility of occurring but may not. Always having this mindset will prepare me for unfortunate events that will inevitably occur in life. I will never forget that my dad planted this seed in my head and recognized the importance of having a proactive mindset. Surely the advice will save me in the future as it has multiple times already.

At This Moment In Time

Right now some high school student is procrastinating on all of his homework hoping that there will be a snow day tomorrow. He has not lifted one finger since the start of the weekend and hopes to carry his laziness into Monday of the next week. The boy's mom walks up the stairs to find his room a mess. Old pizza boxes under his bed, orange Dorito residue on his sheets. The mother shrieks in disgust and proceeds to force the boy up out of bed. “Have you even started your homework?” asks the mother. The boy confirms that he has in overwhelming confidence. Little does he know that this is a deadly move as there will be school the next day. The snow storm that the boy hopes for will not be blown the extra 10 miles into his city. Not a single flake falls. The boy is forced to go to school completely ill prepared.

Colonel Hathi Elephant March

At this very moment, somewhere in the universe....
There is a herd of elephants in Africa monitoring their young. As one elephant is laying down for its 30 minute rest on one side another is waking up to walk around. She has only had about 3 hours total of sleep but that is about 3/4 of the sleep elephants get at night.
Some of the elephants are taking quick little naps and they are standing and some are sleeping on their side. There is even one little baby elephant so deep in sleep she is snoring and kicking her feet. But don't be fouled, elephants are not deep sleepers. They can hop up very fast at the sound of something dangerous.
There are two mothers 'elephant talking',across the open field they have claimed as home, about the activity going on in the forests surrounding them. Nothing is making them nervous so they are able to lay down for a bit a catch some Zz's.
At this very moment, somewhere in the universe elephants are doing there thing like it's no bodies business making me more interested and in love with them.

right now

right now someone is laying in bed writing their blog post before she goes to sleep because she always puts it off till last minute even though she knew about it all week. right now that same person is stressing about the ACT Tuesday because she doesn't want to take it more than once and knows she could have studied more. right now that very same person is wishing she didn't have to go to school tomorrow and could just sleep all day because she is so tired and hates getting up early. right now that same person is about to go to sleep. goodnight

Right now...

Right now someone is eating ice cream in Hawaii where it is bright and sunny. Right now, someone is wishing they could be in Hawaii’s heat rather than the cold snow (me). Right now, someone is singing really loudly. Right now, I am also singing really loudly. Right now, someone is drinking soda for the first time and getting that funny tingly feeling that gets in your nose when you first experience fizz. Right now, someone is wishing they had a fizzy soda to drink (nah, this one’s not me. I don’t really like soda). Right now, someone sneezing, ok there are probably lots of people sneezing. Right now, someone is realizing that pie is really not that good; this one is totally me. Right now, someone is whistling a joyful tune. Right now someone is wishing they could get that joyful tune out of their head (again, me).

someone can't wait.

Right now, there is someone out there who can't wait to see your face tomorrow.  it probably won't be anyone you can think of of the top of your head.  no, it will most likely be someone you would least expect.  they might not even talk to you on a daily basis, or even at all, but seeing your face on a monday morning is something that gets them through the weekend.  to someone, you are a beacon of hope.  you light and lighten up their dreary mornings, and they thank you every day for that.  you probably won't ever learn who it is, either.  that's what keeps this system balanced: anonymity.  If you learned who looked forward to your presence, you would change; your personality would become more selfish, or you would start trying to do things that you thought would make the person like you even more.  It would ruin the whole experience, and then that person wouldn’t exist for you anymore.  Don’t ruin it for that person right now, out there in the world somewhere.

At this moment..

Right now, somewhere in the world there are people working on technological advancements that will change the world, there are people playing video games in their parent's basement, there are people sleeping, going to the bathroom, eating, breathing, etc. Anything you can think of there is someone else doing it. Right now, my parents are watching tv, I am doing a blog post, my brother is in college at Clemson. My family is not exactly being adventurous at the moment, which I am fine. However; somewhere there are people going on adventures, building houses for people who lost theirs, or diving on a shipwreck out in the ocean, which I would be fine with too. The point is that sometimes it is good to be one of the few people in the world doing something at that very moment, others it is fine just to have a casual sunday, the main goal for people is to find a balance that is good for them, so no matter what is happening at that moment, they can be happy with what is happening with them.

Maybe I Should Try to Be More Productive

At this very moment, a girl is surrounded by too many electronic devices. By her own admission, at least. Aside from writing her blog post, she is also texting a friend that she made at an anime convention (who lives in Columbus, where the con actually took place) and watching her little play a video game she has played 50 times by now (Kingdom Hearts II, for those who care).

However, this is localized to her little area of the world. Elsewhere in the world there are people who are out and about, doing social things with social people. More or less, this description is a specific depiction of one very small instance of life or being in this world. The rest of this world is buzzing on and on; there are other people in the world who are currently sleeping. This girl's friend in Columbus just finished watching an episode of Pokemon, and a family member upstairs is taking a shower.

The universe is large though, and the goings on of the rest of it are vast and indescribable.

But for now all I can say is that the tv just went off and I don't know what to do without the battle cries of a boy fighting Disney characters as my background music.

Right Now

There's a variety of activities occurring right now in my own vicinity. My mom is doing laundry and getting ready to cook dinner, while my dad is still at church, playing the organ for the afternoon service. My little brother is stationed in his room playing some violent game for Xbox, probably Call of Duty. My older brother is at college in Louisville doing Lord knows what. A teenager is holed up in her room watching a show on Netflix and trying to figure out what to finish a blog post about (which may or may not be me). There are millions of people on Earth, and they also are all doing their own special thing. Somewhere, a child is learning how to ride a bike, a college student is working out plans to spend time in the Bahamas for spring break with his friends, a couple just got married, and a random person is reading blog posts and judging the writers of the bad ones (like this post). Almost anything could be going on right now in our universe.

Right now..

At this moment somewhere in the universe an intergalactic war is going on between two species. It was a result of bad blood between the two for millennia. The gorhons had been trying to invade the porpots planet since the stone ages for us. Now however the porpots have space travel and are fighting back. The porpots world looks something like the amazon forest all over while the gorhons planet is mainly water. The gorhons are amphibious creatures so they thrive on both planets. Right now the battle is gridlocked, with both species scared to do something in fear of the retaliation of the other. All we can do is hope the intergalactic federation forces them to call a truce before either species wipes out the other. On the bright side it won't affect earth because they do not yet know of the Milky Way.

Somewhere in the world

Somewhere in the world there is beautiful light blue water. There is clear skies and WARM weather. Somewhere in the world there are people rubbing the sand in between the toes and enjoying all of the amenities of a beach resort. That is somewhere I would love to be right now. The current weather of my environment is freezing cold, and never, ever, ever sunny. ever. It makes for a depressing environment, and an incredibly uncomfortable one. However, the light at the end of my tunnel is this beautiful beach resort with white sand, hot sun, light blue water, and all of the delicious food you can imagine. I have no idea if I am even going to such a place, but the thought of it alone inspires me to endure this miserable weather. So, I am imagining myself to be somewhere in this world where the sun is hot, sand is perfect, and water is beautiful. If only I was somewhere in this world....

Here's a picture of beach that will make you happy.

Right now --Anderson

At this very moment, there is a girl who just woke up and immediately grabbed her laptop to write an english blog. She is listening to country music, which she knows is a distraction when writing because she feels the need to sing along to every word and do a little laying down-dance-wiggle. The fan is on and she feels cold but knows if she needs to get all this done first because she's got a busy day. The smell of breakfast has started to enter her room, making her stomach growl. Shes counting the words already written down, hoping that it has gotten close to 150. Not even close. Her friend just texted her. They are talking about prom, something she really does not want to go to. She's searching her mind for more things that are happening at this very moment, but knows her life is way too boring and uneventful for this. Regretting using her own life and should have just made up a random person. But hey, she's finally made it to that 150 mark. Theres a girl at this very moment, somewhere in the universe, sighing with relief because she's finally finished her english blog.

At this moment

John Calipari has a face the same color of a tomato because he is screaming at and cursing his players in the locker room after their humiliating loss to Arkansas on the road. It was their first bad game in two weeks, and it was a VERY bad game. Cal has now quieted down while assistant coach Orlando Antigua is pointing out the specific things that they could have done better in the game. He, equally angry but having to play the role of "good cop," pulls out a black dry erase marker and begins to draw on the provided white board. Having completed his drawing he turns directly to Kyle Wiltjer and says, "First of all, BOX OUT!!!!!" Typically, Kyle stares blankly and nods half heartedly. Launching into an explanation of how to box out which would insult a fifth grader, Antigua suddenly stops. He scans the room, receiving nothing except for blank stares from all of his players. Archie Goodwin, however, and rather ironically, is intensely focused on his coach. Taking to heart everything he has said, Archie has supplied the little bit of hope that Cal and Antigua have needed, Cal jumps in and quickly points out how disgusted he is with everyone but Archie. He goes on to explain that Archie is usually the most despondent, but his reaction tonight is a sign. Although the team played horribly, Archie, for the first time all year, gave it everything he had. He was the spark which Kentucky had lacked all season. At this moment John Calipari has decided to entrust the fate of the 2012-13 Kentucky Wildcats with Archie Goodwin. He knows that Goodwin has the talent and the basketball IQ to perform, but until now he had not seen the desire in Goodwin's eyes. Then Cal asked Goodwin to come up and speak to his teammates about not only what they should have done better on the court, but also what it will take to make a run in the SEC and NCAA tournaments.

*Fast Forward 5 weeks*

"Goodwin with the three at the buzzer!!!     IT'S GOOD! And for the second year in a row the Kentucky Wildcats are National Champions!!!" exclaimed the CBS analyst covering the game.
