Bucket List

1. Before I finish high school, I would like to become friends with/meet as many Henry Clay students as possible. I know it doesn't seem like a very bucket-listy kind of thing, but it has always been a very important goal of mine at Henry Clay. There are so many students that I go to school with and I want to take advantage of my ability to interact with and form relationships with them, rather than passing them in the hallways each day without knowing who they are.

2. I have always been interested in studying abroad in college, and that would definitely be on the top of my bucket list for that part of my life. The opportunity to travel to a different country and spend a portion of my life there truly excites me. I'm sure that I will be given so many opportunities to participate in a study abroad program and I will definitely take advantage of them.

3. To choose the number one item on my life-long bucket list would be like choosing my favorite character on Friends. I can't. There are just so many things that I have always wanted to do during my lifetime and I want to do each of them just as much as the others. So, I guess I'll just give you a list of some of the many things I would like to do before I die:

   Skydive
   Visit all seven continents
   Meet Beyonce
   Meet Barack Obama
   Live in a foreign country
   Get married
   Have children
   and many more

Assignment 18: plastics

Most of the advice we receive in our lives is unsolicited and quite frankly inane.  However, every once in a while we get a real gem and changes our trajectory.  What is the one piece of advice given to you that has stuck?  Explain its effect.

Buckets and Buckets (Blog #17)

It is a bit weird when I think about it, but I actually have many more long-term goals than short term goals, so the college and high school "bucket lists" will probably be fairly short compared to the life time one.

In terms of my high school bucket list, I have two main goals really I suppose:

1. Become at least minimally proficient in Japanese. Unfortunately, I have become a bit lazy when it comes to studying Japanese as of late. On the other hand, though, a recent lull in games releasing that interest me will hopefully re-kindle my interest in the language. I definitely need to go over grammar conventions again as I have unfortunately lost quite a bit of previously acquired knowledge. On the other hand, I have started a Japanese club which should help me as well as others, and my vocabulary has improved immensely.

2. This one is rather basic, but getting good grades.

3. I need to learn how to stop procrastinating and find ways to motivate myself. As you can see by post date of this blog entry, this hasn't been going too well....

In terms of my college bucket list, I have:

1. Study abroad for at least one year in Japan. What can I say, I visited the country for two weeks over the summer, and I fell in love with it. After being burned out for a couple months afterward (mostly because I had been doing quite a bit of research prior to the trip) and watching as my dad began to become a bit of a Japanophile himself, I realized that I really wanted to re-visit it again. I still don't know if I quite want to live in Japan to be perfectly honest, but studying abroad will give me a good idea of what it would be like.

2. After four years of University of Kentucky for the basic Associate's degree, I want to transfer to a college that specializes in Computer Science related classes and earn at least a Master's degree.

3. Try to get job experience as an intern, unpaid if it comes down to such circumstances.

In terms of my lifetime bucket list:

1. Either A. if I find that I would really enjoy living in Japan, moving to Japan, finding an affordable apartment, and securing a job that pays well or B. if I find that I would probably not enjoy living in Japan, then I would probably move to a place like Colorado or Oregon, find an affordable apartment, and secure a job that pays well.

2. Once I make decent enough living, in both situations, I would try to find a proper, affordable home.

3. Work until I retire or die, whichever comes first I suppose.

4. If I make it to retirement, which, considering my usual cautiousness and people living extraordinarily long on my father's side of the family, is fairly likely, I would like to live out the rest of my days playing video games, both old and new.... Hopefully, I will not have grown too old to play video games by then....

By the way, for those who think that playing video games is immature, childish, etc., get off your pedestal; video games are no lesser of a medium than television, books, or movies, despite their now outdated title.

bucket list

1. As I am over halfway done with my high school career, I'm sure that I have easily crossed off many items on my life long bucket list. However I do have a bucket list strictly for high school, at the top of that list would have to be to get straight A's one semester. This is important to me for many reasons, some of those being getting into a good school, and pure self satisfaction.

2. By the time I am finished with college, I will have crossed of countless items off my life long bucket list. But to be more specific to college alone I would love to study abroad. I have always loved to travel, studying anywhere from Greece, Spain, Austrailia, or Italy would be a dream. I plan on majoring in International Business so studying abroad is actually a very possible thing.

3. As far as life long bucket lists go, there's a tie for number one. Starting a family and going skydiving are two things that I need to accomplish before my life ends. I have always been a dare devil and going sky diving is the most daring thing possible. Starting a family is also very important to me.

Live Like You Were Dying

Number one item, in my head, translates to favorite. And I am slowly starting to be able name a favorite in different categories. Right now I have about 2 categories down so I want to make clear that these aren't my number one items and it's only because I honestly can't think of the top thing I want done before each of those time markers. There are far too many things I wish to accomplish to name one of them the top. With that in mind, here goes:
Before High School Graduation:
Not that unique but it's the only one I could think of in simple terms: Get all A's one semester. Yes, spoiler alert I have not done that yet. I think I might feel pretty accomplished but I'm not actually sure. I just want to have the right of saying I did.
Before College Graduation:
Well first off study abroad and hopefully, oh please please, in Australia. I know not all schools have connections to there but it is the only place I am begging to travel to. But I've already talked about my undying love of Australia before so I thought I might also mention that I want to know what I will be doing as my career. I have an idea now but I have never actually been submerged into the atmosphere of being a special education teacher so what if that doesn't work for me? What would my next career path be? That question remains unanswered. By college graduation I want to know what career I will be doing for, maybe, the rest of my life or at lest the majority of it.
Before Kaput-skey:
Oh goodness what a question. Too many things flood to mind when asked this question. And the longer I sit and stare and think about what to write the more I come up with. I want to keep a positive mind set. Never stop volunteer work. See my family too often. But I guess those are just important things to keep in mind, something I can out down on a list and cross off would involve SNL. Go see the studio, take a tour. Maybe even see a show, or two. At some point maybe meet anyone from that show- past, current, future. I have watched SNL too long to not mention it in anything involving a bucket list.

*Title: Closest thing I could come up with that related. Every other search lead to the movie The Bucket List and none of the songs from the sound track stood out to me.*

Bucket List

I've never really thought about applying a bucket list to my life as I don't really think about my future goals that much. But, since we're making lists now, I'm actually kind of excited to try and fulfill my goals.
Before I finish high school, I want to make it into our school's chamber orchestra. It would be an honor for me to get into it as I have a strong passion for the cello (after 8 years of playing and braving the infamous "orch dork" title, you can get really attached). Here's hoping to me getting in!

Before I finish college, I want to learn as many languages as I can whenever I'm not studying to be a pediatrician. Even though I've already taken 4 levels of Spanish, I would love to be able to master it. I've also taken 3 years of Chinese but I've forgotten at least half of it and I'm actually working now to learn more. I would also like to add French to my future knowledge of languages, because even though I don't know it yet, I think it is the prettiest language.

Before I finish living, I want to do something spontaneous and/or crazy, whether it be a spur of the moment road trip or sky diving. I'm probably the biggest scaredy cat in the world, so one day I want to get out of my shell and do something that I wouldn't normally do.

Bucket List

1. Before I finish high school, I want to...
Get my license.
Go on a road trip with a bunch of my friends.
Invent a salad that tastes awesome…and name it after myself.
Try to remember and find the locker I had freshman year; I simply cannot remember where exactly it was, I guess didn’t use it much.

Some of my friends and I have been talking about taking an epic adventure our senior year wherever the road will take us. I think that this would be so much fun and an amazing way to finish high school.

2. Before I finish college, I want to…
Own and grow a potted plant for all four years (the same plant has to live all four years).
Invent a main course dish that tastes awesome…and name it “awesome”
Visit the oldest historical landmark in the place where I am living.

I have always liked those pretty potted plants that most people kill after a month and only skilled gardeners can seem to keep forever. I would love to have a pretty plant in my room and keep it for all four years.

 3. Before I finish life, I want to…
Invent an awesome dessert and call it “meal”, so people could enjoy “Urvi’s Awesome Meal”, the lovely three-course meal with all the courses being Urvi Originals.

Bucket

1. Top on my list to accomplish before the end of high school? I want to get a pilots license. Being a constantly traveling family, I've gotten more experience on planes than most kids my age. I find it amazing how we have created a way to fly through the air. Id love to be able to say that I know how to fly. Still indecisive about my future, i want to try as many new things as possible in order to find something that i enjoy doing.
2. before i finish college, i want to decide what my career will be. Right now, i have no idea. I dont want to be one of those people who will graduate from college and then not know what to do with their lives after.
3. Before i die is a long time to think about. My interests will most likely change and different things will become more important to me. So who knows if ill still want to do this before i die, but i want to go to every state. Not just travel through on the way to somewhere else, but actually take time and visit each specific state.

Why I have low standards for myself

Well I have never thought about a bucket list and honestly I don't particularly want to I mean if I had to make a choice of what to do for the rest of my life it would probably involve sleeping and eating but beyond that I have no clue what I want to do.
However as I have to here's my list:
High school. I want to take a picture with my friends doing something we love to do. I know seems pretty insignificant but right now my entire memory consists of school so the end of high school seems like the end of the world. The people I have been around will be moving around the country and I dont want to lose them. I love these people all of them and I just I don't know what exactly I'm gonna do once they're gone.
Ok that was super nostalgic and bittersweet time for something a little less well sad. So I'm gonna skip college for now cause I don't really have any huge goals for college other than well graduate. As for life I want to do something that gets me on the six o clock news other than committing a crime or dying because if you do that then you had to have done something amazing. Cause what do you see other than those two things.

Bo's Bucket List

1. There are a lot of things I want to do before I graduate in June 2014. Get into a good school, do something good in soccer, but neither of these things are what I consider bucket list items. A bucket list item is something that is either yes or no. Something that you may only have one shot at, something which if not done when the opportunity presents itself, may never happen. That is why, my bucket list item to be completed by the time I graduate high school is visit Europe. Although this is kind of out of my control, I desperately hope I'm able to go sometime.

2. After another 4 years many crazy things will have happened to me. Probably hundreds of bucket list items will be checked off without me even realizing it. However, if I were to label something that I wanted to for my bucket list by the time I graduate college, I would say I want to become fluent in another language. I am relatively close in Spanish already, but I don't find Spanish very appealing and I hope it is either French or German.

3. By the end of my life, my number one bucket list item is to visit the moon. I think that in about 50 years time, spending vacation on the moon will be completely viable and I hope that I have the resources at my disposal to take all of my family and friends on a three week trip of a life time, to the moon.

life camping

HIGH SCHOOL

  • get straight A's every semester
  • take a class for enjoyment, not the credit
  • get a steady "job"
  • start the Spanish mentoring program at church
  • kick off the family game nights
  • finish decorating bedroom
  • make homemade christmas presents one year
  • learn how to knit

the most important thing on my high school list is to start that mentoring program because it will have the longest lasting impact on the community, let alone myself.

COLLEGE

  • study abroad for a semester
  • go on at least 3 cruises
  • become a MK director
  • creatively write weekly
  • take strolls in the park
  • be a live-in nanny for at least a week

if i could only to one of these in college it would be the MK director one because i'd rather have the money from that to go abroad and actually enjoy it.

LIFE

  • learn how to basket weave
  • learn how to surf
  • own a summer camp site
  • have a lake house
  • meet a US president
  • have a formal tea party
  • visit every state in the country
  • have 30 stamps in my passport
i really want to own that summer camp site because it has been a family dream.  we want to spend time forming relationships with people and allowing them to build relationships with each other.  we love camps.

bucket list

1. Before I finish high school I would like to make it to the state tournament in golf. My sophomore year we almost made it and it hurt that we didn't. And last year was a bad year overall and the state tournament was not really in our sights. But, next year we can hopefully rally and make it to state.
2. Before college is done with I hope that I have been able to experience every thing that college has to offer to people. The opportunities are all over the place and I hope that I am able to take advantage of them. For example I would love to do a semester in a foreign place, preferably somewhere tropical.
3. Before I die, I want to go fishing for marlin in either costa rica or South Africa. I  have always loved deep sea fishing and to catch a marlin is the best experience you can find when it comes to fishing.

Bucket list

The number one goal I have before finishing high school is winning the state championship for football. You may think oh thats a terrible goal why isn't it something academic? Well the reason is I have lived every day of the past 3 summers and years with these kids, and were like a family. I honestly have worked a lot harder at football then at school because it doesn't only affect me, it also affects my teammates. So winning a state championship would be much more gratifying than getting all A's, plus we'd go down into Henry Clay history.
My goal before I finish college is to have studied something that will let me do whatever I want to for the rest of my life and be happy.
And my goal before I kick the bucket is to have a positive lasting impact on the world and leave it a better place then which I found it.

Who Really Wants to Live Forever?

So a bucket list. I haven't ever made one of these before, but I probably should have.

Anyway, high school. Okay, so that's kinda difficult because I'm not going to be in high school for much longer. Prior to last weekend it probably would have been to go to an anime convention, but I guess I can't really use that again. However, I can use that as a point to jump off of: I'd like to go to another one, except this time I'd like to be on my own. I'll be honest, our "chaperones" or whatever you want to call them, were rarely around (I only saw Claire's dad twice, and I only saw Bay's dad when he dropped us off and then came back to pick us up). But I didn't quite feel as independent as I wanted to be. I had wanted to use this trip as a way to prove to my parents that I am mature (or as mature as a 17 year old can be while also dressing as a character from Pokemon and no I'm not joking about that). Mature enough to take care of myself, I guess. And with this last trip I probably didn't really achieve that, since I skipped a meal and didn't want to try to convince my friends to actually eat meals that weren't mini donuts or cheese fries (I usually get told off for acting like a mother when I do that). But I guess being able to go somewhere and prove that I can take care of myself and maybe even others would be a nice thing before I head off to college.

Before I get out of college I want to study abroad. That's not that specific or particularly difficult to do, but it's certainly something I want to do. I want to go abroad, and I'm sure that would probably help in whatever field I would choose. I don't know where I want to study abroad either; I'd want to go to plenty of countries. I can hardly choose one out of all, but I guess I'll add choosing what country I want to go to to my bucket list as well.

And before life, or the end thereof. I want to do something worthy of being remembered. And wow, Sarah, that's really broad! Well that's because it is. I'm not going to say something narrow like "I want to get married" or "I want to go to the moon" or anything like that because if I don't manage that then it'll lead to disappointment. And while my current one can lead to that too, it's not nearly as set in stone. I live my life more in the now, and I don't want to try to set my future in stone. I know I want to visit many places around the world and other bits and pieces like that. It's not that I don't have things that I want in my life. But what I know I want is to be able to say I did something worthwhile, whether that be something worthy of the history  books or simply something my family would remember. I don't know if that's an answer that seems like I tried to get out of answering, but that is certainly what I would have to say is on my "bucket list" for life.

Bucket List

This is hard. I am not one for singling something out (never ask me what my favorite anything is).  There are a whole bunch of things that I want to do before I die, or graduate high school/ college. Whichever one comes first.  I’m not going to put “be happy” on here because of course I want to be happy. To me, a bucket list is a list of seemingly unattainable things you always wish to do and you give yourself a whole lifetime to not put pressure on yourself. Unlike New Years Resolutions because just a year is way too stressful. My bucket list has things like eat cake in Rome or get bumped up to first class on a long flight but some other things that other people think are more important.

So, before high school is over my priority is to travel alone. (I really don’t appreciate the time requirement though because this takes some hard core parental convincing and time is running short.) I have been made aware by some very trust worthy sources (the author of Eat, Prey, Love and my host mom to be exact) that traveling alone is the way to go. I don’t mean going by yourself on a plane somewhere and then meeting up with someone. I mean everything by myself, alone. This is supposed to be the prime way to travel because you can do whatever you want – wallet permitting, and when people see you are alone they are much more likely to start talking to you and tell you about/take you to amazing and unknown-to-the-guide-book places. In a totally non-creepy way, of course. But do you see how it will be hard to convince my parents?

My college goal is tied between going to Jerusalem with my dad and interviewing my grandparents and writing down all their stories so I haven them when they are gone. I want to go to Israel with my dad because that has always been a plan of ours and he lived there for a year so he knows all of the foods I should order. Plus he has people to visit there and I like to hear the things they know about him while he is struggling with his disappearing Hebrew. It’s a win-win. That and the history there is pretty cool. On the same note, I want to know the things my grandparents have done. When you get them started they have pretty fabulous stories to tell, the kinds of stories you really don’t want to forget.

Before I am dead I better have eaten cake in Rome, learned how to make a butterfly in the milk of a latte, read some Goethe in German…the list goes on. Mostly I don’t want to have a cookie cutter life. I want to go places and meet people that surprise me. My main goal is to never forget the people, places and experiences that have changed my life because they are pretty important. Its not really about eating the cake in Rome but meeting people who tell me where to get the best cake. You know, the journey and all.

Because I Won't be Able to Live Forever...

Before I graduate form high school, my biggest goal is to be content. Whether this be with my grades, or my club activities, my friendships, my achievements, my failures. I just want to be okay with it all. I want to be able to be happy with the college I am going to, even if it wasn't my first choice. I want to be able to look back and remember high school as a fun time in which i was comfortable within my own skin. I would like to have a kick-butt mentoring project that, even though it may not be the "best" out of my peers, it makes me happy and will push me forward in the career area i would like to continue. Along with these are some smaller goals such as being able to visit my Bulgarian family more (I'm hoping to be able to go during winter break - they get so much more snow than us!) and participating in some fun summer programs! I think starting a blog might be necessary to keep track of everything going on, too!

Before I graduate college, I would like to have studied abroad a minimum of one year. my biggest fear is going through college, finishing, and not knowing what to do from then on so I would like a sense of security and having a job already lined up once i finish school. I would like to take some awesome backpacking trips - preferably Europe - and I would also like to visit London. I would also like to have taken as many English classes as possible and hopefully have had some pieces published.

Oh man, before I die, well my goal would be to live forever but unless I step away from my English Lit major and take some Bio-Science-Chemical-Engineering-Physics (you can already tell I'm so well versed in the topic) major, I will not be able to invent the elixir of life. Shame. Anyway, my biggest goal is to travel abroad and settle down in Europe and just write. I will be able to combine my two passions and hopefully make a living out of them. I would also like to be able to cook/bake fancy meals but that's a whole other story. And if all that falls through, it's cool because Josh and I have backup plan. We're going to buy and flip and old Victorian house in an old historic district, install claw-foot bathtubs in the bathrooms, and sleep in huge canopy beds. I call dibs on the room with the bay window, Josh!

I know I haven't nearly covered everything i hope to accomplish but another goal of mine is to be able to play it by ear - stop making plans and getting disappointed when they fall through. WE'll see how all this pans out!

Assignment 17: Buckets and Buckets

Welcome to your first blog prompt for 2013! Yay!

A bucket list is a list of everything you want to accomplish before you kick the bucket. That doesn't mean you can't have such a list for specific aspects of your life as well.

To begin the year, generate your own bucket lists - one for high school, one for college, and one for life. Then, write about the priority on each list.
  1. What is the number one item on your bucket list before you finish high school?
  2. What is the number one item on your bucket list before you finish college?
  3. What is the number one item on your bucket list before you finish living?
(This blog is inspired by Axel Liimatta - my friend and former colleague that inspires me to live every day more fully)
