Connections
When I first got on that plane on August 17th, 2004 I didn't realize what I would be leaving behind, I was far too excited. I didn't think that I wouldn't be able to go over to my cousins' house everyday, or see my big sister every weekend. Then I flew to another continent with only a teddy bear twice my size as a memento from home. Now, here I am, 2398 miles away from my family. Through Skype and email, I have been able to see my nephew grow up and I can see my big sister every week even though they're in another continent. Skype allowed me to "attend" my uncle's wedding and countdown to the New Year with my cousins. The softphone on my computer allows me to make calls to my family whenever I want, I can call my cousin after a bad day.Technology keeps me close to home everyday. Technology has affected me in the greatest of ways, it's my connection.
