On October 12 in 1871 President Grant condemned the Klu Klux Klan. The KKK was a violent organization that hurt, terrorized and often killed African Americans in the south just because of the color of their skin. This condemnation shows the governments recognition of such horrors that the Klu Klux Klan was involved in. With out the president speaking out against them, many people may not have realized the threat that they caused. This is a good event because of the recognition the it brought of the Klu Klux Klan to our nation. After the Civil War when many people in the south still had negative views of African Americans, it was very necessary for someone to let everyone know that it wasn't acceptable for an organization to act as the Klu Klux Klan did. If this was not made clear, many other organizations might have sprung up with similar interests and the nation would've been in a much worse situation than they were at this point.
